My Philosophy of Educational Leadership

"The only person who is educated is the one who has learned how to learn and change." -- Carl Rogers

I feel this quote embodies what I truly value in today’s leaders. It is no longer effective to memorize your mathematic equations or to regurgitate back facts about the Revolutionary War.  Education is about determining how to learn and helping those around you to discover their own visions and missions in today’s society. As an educational leader, it is my responsibility to be a catalyst of change for teachers to constantly improve instruction, to be a source of inspiration and encouragement. I hope to instill in teachers a sense of worthiness and a sense of pride that will continue to drive their own reflectional practice and become more than they thought they could be.

I must lead by example. I pledge to cultivate a learning community that engages in self discovery. I plan to provide structure but promise not to squash creativity and imagination. I will challenge those around me to question what is right, what is best and not to simply accept what has always been done. I will keep an open-mind to novel ways to achieve successes and to help guide colleagues to their own personal successes. I hope to be a positive influence on members of the educational community, demonstrating integrity, fairness, flexibility and professionalism.

I know that even today, and many days in the past, I have affected students of BCPSS in a positive manner. If given the opportunity to become a leader, I believe i am component enough guide people through to all future challenges. I will value what each individual has to offer to make the learning environment optimal. I will approach problems and solutions in a collegial manner to allow for a more effective decision-making process. It has always been a personal practice to give one hundred percent and encourage others to do the same.
